Residency by Investment in Panama
A residency pathway for foreign nationals who demonstrate economic solvency through real estate, a fixed-term bank deposit, or a combination of both investments.
How would you like to demonstrate your economic solvency?
The regulations provide different ways to structure the investment. The right option depends on the asset you wish to hold, how you want to allocate your capital, and the documentation available.
SLE can review the investment option before you commit funds and help you organize the immigration file correctly.
Three ways to structure the investment
All three start with a B/.300,000 base threshold, but each option has its own requirements.
Residency through real estate investment
For applicants who wish to demonstrate economic solvency through real estate in Panama.
- Property held in the applicant's name, subject to the applicable exceptions.
- Funds originating from abroad.
- The property must meet the conditions required by the immigration authorities.
Residency through bank deposit
For applicants who prefer to demonstrate economic solvency through a bank deposit in Panama.
- Minimum term of 3 years.
- Bank holding a General License in Panama.
- The deposit must be free of liens or encumbrances.
Real estate + fixed-term deposit
Allows both investment types to be combined to reach the required amount.
- The combined value of both investments must reach B/.300,000.
- Each asset must meet the applicable requirements.
- The structure can be tailored to the applicant's asset profile.
What changes between the three options?
The base amount may be the same, but the way the investment is documented—and the supporting documents required—changes by option.
Economic solvency is demonstrated through real estate ownership.
- Public Registry
- Source of funds
- Ownership and lien requirements
Economic solvency is demonstrated through a bank deposit.
- Minimum 3 years
- General License bank
- Bank certification and authenticated copy of the deposit certificate
Economic solvency is demonstrated by combining real estate and a fixed-term deposit.
- Combined total of B/.300,000
- Documentation for both assets
- Both assets must meet their applicable requirements
Having the capital is not enough: the investment must be documented
The file must clearly show how the investment was structured and, where applicable, that the funds originated abroad.
The documents must allow the source of the capital used to be identified.
The file must clearly establish who owns the property or deposit.
Specific conditions apply depending on the option used.
Public Registry records, bank certifications, and other documents depending on the case.
First a provisional permit. Then you may apply for permanent residence.
The requirements published by Panama's National Immigration Service provide for an initial two-year provisional permit. After that period, the applicant may apply for permanent residence by meeting the applicable requirements.
Your application may include your family
The published immigration requirements allow for the inclusion of dependents, subject to the family relationship and supporting documentation.
The investment must be increased by B/.2,000 for each dependent, according to the requirements published by the National Immigration Service.
The relationship to the principal applicant must be documented.
Additional requirements regarding single status and studies may apply, as applicable.
